Maskne’ is a word we never thought we’d be using, but then, prior to 2020, how many of us wore a mask every day? In the last year, we’ve experienced dramatic change in the way we live our lives, and our skin has taken a hit as a result. We’ve responded to the pandemic practically — here at Trtl, for example, we created the Protect range to keep you feeling safe — it’s time to rethink our skincare routines in the same way.

Oily skin options 🛢️

If you suffer from breakouts, wearing a mask can be stressful for you and your skin. It’s a good idea to look into switching up your products — gel moisturisers, for example, provide hydration without creating excess oil. Make sure you wash reusable masks regularly, too, to help keep your skin clean.

Keeping your beard comfortable 🧔

If you have a beard, it’s hard enough to find a mask that fits (unless you’ve got Trtl’s Protect mask, of course) without having to worry about your skincare too. To prevent maskne or damage to your facial hair, give your beard some extra attention by washing it regularly with a mild shampoo.

Looking after sensitive skin 🦢

All skin is delicate, but if you have particularly sensitive skin, you’ll need to take steps to combat breakouts and irritation. Picking the right mask is essential — go for something with a soft lining to prevent friction. It’s also worth using a gentle cleanser to wash your face as soon as you get home to get rid of any build-up on your skin, and to give it time to repair.

Dry lip tips 👄

If you already suffer from chapped lips in the winter, routine mask-wearing can make things worse. To keep your lips smooth, we recommend (very!) gently exfoliating them once a week and using rich balms when you’re at home, and when you’re out and about, opt for a mask with a mask with a breathable inner to reduce the moisture that can cause them to dry out.

Stick to the essentials 🥕

Though your skincare regime may need to become more soothing, or even more combative, to meet new pandemic-related needs, some cardinal rules aren’t worth breaking. Make sure you’re eating well and cleansing nightly to avoid breakouts, and even though half your face is often covered nowadays, don’t forget your SPF.
