Unlike traditional travel pillows, the Trtl Travel Pillow incorporates a patented internal support system that is designed to hold your head in a neutral position, preventing any unwanted movement that might awaken you from your slumber. To inform and optimise the design development of the Trtl Travel Pillow, an independent study scientifically evaluated the pillow's ability to improve sleep quality while traveling. In collaboration with the University of Dundee and led by Professor Rami Abboud (Head of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery and Director of the Institute of Motion Analysis and Research), the study compared the Trtl Travel Pillow with a high-end traditional U-shaped travel pillow.

Simulating the environment of a Boing 757 airliner and using motion analysis technology, researchers were able to evaluate how each pillow influenced head and neck alignment over time. The outcome? The Trtl Travel Pillow’s innovative design provided was ranked to provide superior support, effectively keeping the head in an optimal position for sleeping while sitting upright.

Using electrical activity measurements from the neck, the study also found that the Trtl Pillow Plus helped reduce muscle exertion, therefore indicating lower levels of discomfort for the wearer and a more comfortable, restful sleep

When the study participants were asked to select a pillow to keep impressively, 124 out of 126 participants favoured the Trtl Travel Pillow over the traditional memory foam U-shaped pillow.
