With a third of Brits now opting to have a staycation over a foreign getaway, English holiday destinations are now more popular than ever. With so many exciting places to explore, there is so much to do in England no matter what you are interested in. From stunning landscapes, long deserted stretches of beaches and cultural hotspots, it’s time to put your passport away and get ready for a wonderful English holiday, but where to choose? Here are 4 of the best places to holiday in England.

Cornwall

Perhaps one of the most beautiful stretches of land in the world, Cornwall is easily one of the best places to holiday in England. It is a county full of contradictions, with myth and mystery surrounding its beauty. With sleepy towns and villages, sunshine-soaked beaches and a foodie adventure around every corner, Cornwall is hugely popular with families looking for a taste of the overseas, but with all the pleasures of a staycation. There is plenty to do here, with a huge focus on the outdoors, but a visit to The Eden Project is a must with its indoor forests and butterfly gardens.

The Lake District

The Lake District is a popular destination for visitors from all across the globe thanks to the beautiful scenery and sense of adventure which is so prevalent here. 15.8 million people visit the Lake District each year, so it’s not hard to see why it is one of the best places to holiday in England.

Whether you’re into nature and have a sense of adventure or just want to relax for a few days whilst being surrounded by some of the most wonderful countrysides in England, you’ll find no shortage of activities or places to stay. If you have pets, then the Lake District is known for being one of the most pet-friendly destinations in the UK, so finding somewhere to stay with your four-legged friend won’t be too difficult and many restaurants and pubs also welcome dogs.

The Isle of Wight

If you still need a sense of going abroad, then the Isle of Wight is the perfect location to choose. To get here, you need to take a ferry so it feels like you are travelling further afield than you actually are. With stretches of sandy beaches and countryside, the island is one of the best places to holiday in England if you want to spend time outdoors. Whilst we don’t have great weather all of the time, we do have great scenery and on the Isle of Wight, there are plenty of cycling and walking routes for you to take, as well as a great selection of pubs and restaurants. Whether you choose a family-run B&B or hire out a lodge or cottage, you’ll feel right at home here.

Yorkshire

If you’re still undecided on where to go, then Yorkshire is a great choice. With moors, coastline, peaks, national parks and dales to explore, it’s no wonder that so many people consider this area to be one of the best places to holiday in England. Scarborough is a great place to get a taste of the old-fashioned English seaside holiday and is packed full of fun things to do with kids, whereas Whitby is perfect if you want to stroll around a historic town and enjoy some proper fish and chips. If you want to do a spot of shopping, then head into York where you can browse quaint individual stores on The Shambles, or visit some of the high-street stores in the centre.
