We’ve rounded up some of our favourites to give you inspiration for your next trip.

The Best Hikes in the World

Inca Trail, Peru

Distance: 26 miles

The Inca trail is often regarded as one of the best hikes in the world, not to mention most popular. Taking you through 26 miles of tremendous slopes and rapid declines, it’s not one for the fainthearted. During this spectacular trek, you’ll become immersed in deep jungles before reaching awe-inspiring mountain scenery once you’ve come out the other side. The hike ends at Machu Picchu, ruins of a 15th-century Incan citadel in the heart of Peru with incredible panoramic views.

Te Araroa Trail, New Zealand

Distance: 1.8 miles

New Zealand is well known for its captivating and diverse landscapes, none more so than the ones found on the Te Araroa trail. This dynamic trail will link nearly 2,000 miles of coastal sand, jungle bushwalks, farmland and alpine ridges. And if that’s not enough, you’ll even get a glimpse of volcanoes. It’s best to explore this trail from October through to April.

Tour Du Mont Blanc, France/Italy/Switzerland

Distance: 100 miles

The Tour Du Mont Blanc trail is for the more experienced hikers. It’s rare that you can follow a trail that travels through three different countries. Each features outstanding views, mostly of the mountains as you weave your way around them. This hike features some of Europe’s most dramatic glaciers, making it an adventure of a lifetime! As one of the most special and best hikes in the world, there’s every reason to pack a backpack and get trekking.

Pacific Crest Trail, USA

Distance: 2.6 miles

This hike takes you through the three states of California, Oregon and Washington – which have a total of 7 national parks between them. Along the way you’ll pass a variety of the great Pacific mountain ranges providing wonderful scenic views. This is a challenging walk through plenty of treacherous terrains, but worth it once you discover the relatively unknown beauty hiding in the USA.

Overland Track, Australia

Distance: 40 miles

This route is perfect for those who look to discover more of what Australia has to offer aside from its golden coasts. During this trek, you’ll be walking through part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area, known for its wild, natural landscapes. From highland mountains to rainforest, you’ll see it all on this peaceful, untouched journey.

Long Range Traverse, Canada

Distance: 25 miles

It’s not surprising that a route in Canada would make it onto the best hikes in the world list. The hike is in the Long Range Mountains near the Gulf of St. Lawrence, running through towering cliffs, hidden lakes and luscious forests. This rugged trip will also allow you to see a lot of wildlife, including moose and caribou. What’s more, there are five designated wilderness campsites – though you won’t see many other people during your travels thanks to the secluded nature of the hike.

Mountains of the Moon, Uganda

Distance: 38 miles

The mysterious yet magical name given to this trail truly sums up the fantastic route across the rural part of Uganda. The three staggering peaks make up the highest range in Africa – at over 16,000ft! Not only do you have the opportunity to take in the scenery that only a few brave explorers have set on eyes on before, but you’ll also come into contact with some wildlife on your journey. This trail is one of the only walks where you’ll see high altitude glaciers and majestic elephants in one trip. It takes 6 – 7 days to complete the trek.
