Whether you're looking for an island to explore or a blue ocean and a cocktail on the beach, here are 5 of the best islands to visit from all around the world.


Maldives

Although this article is about the best islands to visit, people who take a trip to the Maldives will be astounded by the beauty of the turquoise ocean. The Maldives is a group of islands with crystal clear waters surrounding them, they are based just south of India and offer a perfectly remote ambience. Consisting of 26 natural atolls, the Maldives is the earths lowest-lying nation as it rises no more than 3 meters above sea level. Tourist and sunseekers tend to come to the Maldives for its coral reefs where you can dive in and see all of the sea life in perfect clarity, along with surfer being attracted here for its uncrowded waves. On land, the Maldives take great passion is being the ideal holiday location for people wanting a completely surreal experience they won't find anywhere else.


Bora Bora - French Polynesia

Located in the South Pacific, Bora Bora is a volcanic island full of life. Known for its homes on stilts sitting on the shallow ocean, Bora Bora is an island worth visiting for its turtles, fish and stingrays. The French Polynesia island offers amazing cuisine that you may have guessed is distinctly French, and you can spend your days snorkelling, wondering the vast palm tree forests on hikes you will want to do over and over again. It’s a very pricy holiday, but if you want to experience an over the water bungalow with glass floors and fall asleep to the sound of the ocean, it’s a place worth saving for.


Palawan - Philippines

One of the easier remote islands to travel to is Palawan, which is just to the west of the central part of the Philippines. You’ll recognise the limestone peaks from the majority of computer desktop wallpapers, as it offers picturesque views you want to see every day. The majority of people who visit Palawan call it a secret paradise as it offers wonderful green forests accompanied by the bluest seas imaginable, the island is filled with fishing villages to visit along with plenty of jungle and ocean activities to take part in. While you stay here, one of the reasons this is one of the best islands from around the world is its world heritage listed Puerto Princesa Subterranean River nation park, which is a limestone cave system that has a river within it, a truly amazing spectacle to see.

Santorini - Greece

This is one of the best islands to visit for both its natural and man-made beauty. This island is to the south-east of Greece and offers a magnificent view you wouldn't expect to see. Glowing white villas have been designed down volcanic cliffs and in the sea of white buildings are the blue domed roofs of the churches. Sitting atop the black lava cliffs are the two settlements known as Fira and Oia, which are known to be among the most photographed locations in the world. This unforgettable location includes some great places to visit, with the black sand beaches, the Akrotiri archaeological site and the Ancient Thira, it’s an expensive location for a holiday, but it much closer then some of the other islands mentioned.


Bali - Indonesia

With beautiful architecture, mountains and culture, Bali is currently a tourist hotspot. Tourists tend to come here to see the mesmerizing Hindu temples, shopping villages and for a relaxing trip by the sea. With swimming, surfing and plenty of sea life to explore, Bali is an affordable island choice that also has other local islands to explore. It’s known as one of the best islands for its culture and the way it has avoided becoming a commercial choice for holiday seekers.
