Are you part of a camping family? It’s a great way to spend quality time together in the great outdoors while also saving a little money on travel (if you’re savvy). But camping does require a lot of planning and organisation. We’re here to help make things a little easier! Take a look through our top tips for camping with family this summer.

Packing For a Summer Camping Trip

It all starts with the packing! Some key items to include with your camping gear: a first aid kit in case of any accidents, toilet paper (for similar reasons), plastic cutlery and dishware, flashlight, camping lantern, hiking boots, insect repellent, food supplies, towels, and toiletries. Of course, that’s just the beginning! Our top packing tip is to create a very thorough list so you can check everything off and avoid any tricky situations. Another packing tip is to roll your clothes – this means you can fit more into each bag. Finally, for extra comfort we recommend you take a look at the Trtl Deep Sleep Bundle! It comes with everything you need to ensure a full night’s sleep and waking up refreshed.

US Campsites: Where To Go

North Rim beside the Grand Canyon, AZ: tick this beautiful spot of your bucket list while you relax in the natural splendour of one of the most famous national parks.

Kittatinny Campground in Barryville, NY: tuck yourself away in the thick forests of the Catskills Mountains near the Delaware river for a weekend connecting with nature.

Wonder Lake, Denali National Park, AK: book a spot with a view of Denali (aka Mt. McKinley) and enjoy a night-time presentation by the rangers.

Upper Pines Campground, Yosemite, CA: open all year round and with plenty of space available, you’ll be guaranteed incredible views of El Capital and Half Dome.

How To Set Up Your Campsite

Everyone has their own tips and tricks for setting up camp, but here are a few of ours! Use a pool float or yoga mat as extra padding under your sleeping bag and bring a few hot water bottles in case the nights get chilly. Hang up your Trtl Packing Pods inside the tent to keep your camping gear within easy reach and avoid any items getting damp or dirty. We’d also recommend you place a shoe basket at the tent entrance so that no one tracks mud from their boots inside this sleeping area. For an extra cosy touch, drape fairy lights around the tent and it will feel much more homely.

Family Camping Activities: Making Memories

Need a few ideas of ways to keep the whole family engaged? Make sure to bring a deck of cards to give yourself unlimited game opportunities. You can also use your camping lantern or a flashlight to try out a few shadow puppet performances! And why not take advantage of being out in the wilderness to do a nature scavenger hunt? You can collect all kinds of plants, insects and items and declare one family member the official winner.

How To Clean Up Your Campsite

Let’s not forget the most important part of camping – leaving everything the way it was for other people to enjoy. You know what they say, take only photos and leave only footprints! Make sure to do your part to conserve these beautiful natural surroundings by taking away all your rubbish and putting out any campfires. We’re lucky to have so many natural parks in America and we want to preserve them for future generations.
